Explorer Program Requirments

  1. Must be between the ages of 14 1/2 and 20 to apply
  2. Must have and maintain a GPA of "C" (2.0) or better in school
  3. Must be able to attend all 11 training sessions
  4. Must maintain a 70% or higher GPA through the Explorer Academy
  5. Must join our Learning for Life Explorer Post prior to graduation
  6. Must have parent's permission to participate in all post functins
  7. Must attend monthly meetings, and participate in a minimum of 5 hours of community service events which are scheduled and arranged by the post.

  • Complete and turn in an application to Explorer Office 705 S. Nevada Ave. C/S 80906
  • Pass a background investigation
  • Complete and pass a criminal history check
  • Complete and pass an oral board interview

The CSPD Explorer Program accepts applications all year round but the testing process begins in January and runs thru April.  Currently the recruiting process is as follows:

January and February                    - Recruiting and Open House                                  March                                           - Backgrounds Completed                                   April                                             - Interviews Completed                                        May                                              - Probationary Explorers Start                             June                                             - One Day Orientation                                          July                                              - Two Week Academy

Cost and Equipment

A $25 Academy fee will cover all Academy Materials, and Explorer dues for the year.  A $20 annual fee will be required in January from each explorer.  This fee will cover, some Explorer events, additional equipment for the post, and the membership fee for Learning For Life.  Learning for Life is a part of Boy Scouts of America.

CSPD Explorer Post 116 has been a chartered Explorer Post Since 1985

CSPD Explorer Post 116 is supported by the Police Department but is not funded by the department.  It is evey explorer responsibility to assist with fund raising to help the post continue to grow.

Explorer Training

The CSPD Explorer Training Academy meets for 10 hours a day, 11 days during two consecutive weeks during the summer.  Explorers will receive training and an introduction to: law enforcement, police ethics, community relations, criminal law, radio communications, criminal investigations, use of force laws, crime scene searches, evidence collections, domestic violence, officer safety, vehicle stops, patrol functions, report writing, firearms safety and range time.
